Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!! Quick story: My mom made the executive decision to not allow her children to believe in Santa Claus.  When us kids were growing up she’d always say, “Mommy is Santa Claus!”  So I never believed in Santa.  But this story?  This story right here?  This story may make a believer outta me yet!  Check it out:

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

**Embargo: Sacramento, CA** In the Blanc’s kitchen, the whole family is hard at work cooking up something sweeter than any recipe could yield –kindness, through the slogan “Make America Kind Again”. The family works together to make campaign lawn signs, cups, decals and tote bags with the logo.

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!! Regardless of political affiliation, regardless of ideology, regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum I think this is a slogan we can all get behind. And that’s why it’s Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!! Check it out:

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  I love a story about kids helping people.  And so clearly this story is right up my alley.  If kids can go out of their way to help other people, then what’s our excuse?

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” – Meister Eckhart

Opportunities to be grateful happen each and every day.  It’s true.  From the magical to the mundane and everything in between, if we pay attention moments will happen that give us opportunity to be grateful.

Most of those moments pass us by because we’re distracted by other things.  Work commitments.  Familial commitments.  Social commitments.  Errands we have to run.  Phone calls we need to make.  E-mails we need to return.  Meetings we have to attend.  People, places, things and circumstances that pull us in every direction.  It’s easy to not be mindful of the little moments that are chances for us to live in thankfulness.

But how much happier, peaceful and more content individuals would we be if every time those moments happened, we stopped, observed it, and sent up a prayer of thankfulness for it.  Something to think about.

Check out the video below.  Then check out the website gratefulness.org.  And take some time today to be mindfully grateful for the big, little, mundane and transformative moments that happen in our lives everyday.  Have a FANTASTIC Friday, everyone!

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

hope
Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: This page is apolitical.  In fact, all my social media sites and web pages are apolitical.  There are deeper things I concern myself with as far as what I put out on the internet than the politics of the day.  That being said, I thought this article was REALLY appropriate for what will be happening today.  When Pandora’s box was opened, all the evils of the world escaped.  And when it was finally closed again, only HOPE remained at the bottom of the box.  Regardless of your political affiliations, political leanings or if you’re an American how you will or won’t vote today, regardless of the outcome of today let’s make a pact to focus on hope.  Because at the end of the day it’s all we have.  Check it out:

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

homelessperiod

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  I post a lot about homelessness in my GOOD NEWS! and BEST. THING. EVER!!! articles.  It’s an issue that hits close to home because I spent a year homeless in New York City.  But it wasn’t until today when I was searching for an article for today’s post that I realized how big of a need hygiene materials are needed and necessary for homeless people.  Specifically sanitary napkins, tampons, pads and other such things women specifically need.  It never even occurred to me these things would be in short supply at homeless shelters.  Maybe it’s because I’m a man and having to experience a period without the aid of sanitary napkins has never really crossed my mind.  Again that is, until today.  Well here’s an article about one woman’s crusade to make sure every homeless woman has tampons, pads and whatever else she needs during that time of the month.  And her crusade has turned into a world-wide phenomenon.  Inside the article is also how you can help.  So if you feel moved to help, I encourage you to do so.  Take a look:

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  So on Monday’s podcast I talked about wanting to find a boyfriend.  And how I have had to have the patience of a saint to find a boyfriend.  And a bookcase.  (I still haven’t found either btw, which only adds fuel to my impatient fire.)  Well this video proves I’ve been going about it all wrong!  What I need to do is have surgery, (a little nip and tuck never hurt anybody) get high on the good shit (anesthesia) and hit on hot nurses!  That’s the key to my eternal happiness!  Thank you Luke!  And HELLOOOOOO NURSE!!!  YOWSA!!!

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  I love this clip because it’s pure unadulterated joy.  You know, if I had a choice of dream jobs it would be a game show host for either the Price is Right or Let’s Make A Deal.  Because the people they have in the audience are truly joy personified.  And this clip is proof positive of it.  Take a look:

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!

teacher

Today’s BEST. THING. EVER!!!  I often say in my private conversations with people that everything we do starts and ends with a why.  For everything we do it’s always a good idea to start by asking why.  “Why am I doing this?”  And then be honest with the answer.  Be brutally honest with the answer.  And then when you’ve accomplished what you set out to accomplish, it’s always a good idea to again ask “Why did I do that?”  And then be brutally honest with that answer.

My why for doing this is because I want to leave a legacy of some sort behind.  A good legacy.  A legacy that will be remembered for a little while until it fades into the obscurity of time.  I want to be remembered as someone who left the world in a better place than what he found it.

The truth is I have no idea how many people actually listen to my podcast.  Or check out my social media.  Or read my BEST. THING. EVER!!! or GOOD NEWS!!! articles.  I really don’t.  When I speak into the microphone and hit submit, it’s like I’m speaking into a vast unknowable darkness.  And when I type these words out and hit publish I have no idea how many people I’m impacting.  Yes, Facebook keeps count for me.  But half the time I don’t even check it.  I just hope that whomever needs to hear the words from my podcast or read the words from whatever I post that day across social media, will get to it and it will make a difference to them.

And if I’m being completely honest, I do want to be remembered.  I don’t have the blessing of children of my own.  I am single with no mate on the horizon.  I have friends and family who know and love me.  But since I want to leave the world a better place than what I found it I want to make sure that I reach as many people with love as I possibly can.  I want to leave a legacy.

Not for fame.  Not for notoriety.  There are easier ways to get both, and both ultimately are illusions that fade away quickly.  But I want to make a difference, a POSITIVE difference to as many people as come across my website, who sit down for a reading, who listen to my podcast and follow my social media.  And when it’s all I do want to be thought of fondly when I leave this mortal coil.  I want people to say, “You know Stephen didn’t get it right most of the time, but when he did he really made a difference in my life.”

And that’s why this story speaks to me on such a core spirit level.  This teacher, who unfortunately was in the final throes of the cancer that would ultimately take his life, was a positive influence on so many people.  When 400 kids – high school kids, no less – turn up on your front lawn to serenade you, that’s saying something about the impact you had on lives.  Its an amazing testimony to a person who made a difference in so many people’s lives.  And they repaid that kindness by serenading him into the afterlife.  That’s beyond words incredible.
